Privacy Policy for Politix (debatepolitix.com)

Effective Date: September 3, 2026
Last Updated: September 6, 2026

Politix ("we," "our," or "us") operates debatepolitix.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Politix.

1. Information We Collect

We collect limited information to run the Site and your account.

a. Information You Provide
  • Account information: Email address, username, and a hashed password. We operate our own sign-up, sign-in, email verification, and password-reset flow. We do not use a third-party identity provider such as Clerk.
  • Profile choices: Optional details you set in Settings, such as political affiliation.
  • User content: Discussions, comments, votes, referrals, and similar activity you choose to post.
  • Support: If you email us, we receive your address and message.
b. Information Collected Automatically
  • Basic technical data such as browser type, device, and pages visited.
  • Session cookies we set so you stay signed in (HTTP-only cookies on our domain).
  • Referral codes stored when you visit an invite link, so we can credit a successful signup.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Create and maintain your account, including email verification and password resets.
  • Sign you in with a session cookie and keep the session secure.
  • Provide voting, discussions, XP, referrals, and related features.
  • Send transactional email (verification, password reset) via our email provider.
  • Prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. How We Store and Protect Information

Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. Sessions use HTTP-only cookies. Account and activity data are stored with Supabase. Transactional email is sent with Resend.

No system is perfectly secure. By using Politix you acknowledge that residual risk remains.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

We may share limited data only when:

  • Required by law.
  • Needed to protect Politix or other users.
  • Necessary for vendors that host or operate the Site (for example Supabase for the database, Resend for email, and Vercel for hosting).

5. Cookies and Tracking

  • Signed-in session cookie (required to use an account).
  • Short-lived cookies for email verification and referral attribution.
  • Optional analytics from our hosting provider (loaded only if you accept analytics in the cookie notice).

You can clear cookies in your browser. Doing so will sign you out.

6. Your Rights

If you are in California, you may have CCPA rights to know what we collect, request deletion, and know that we do not sell personal data. Email daniel@debatepolitix.com to make a request.

If you are in the EEA or UK, additional rights may apply under GDPR as we grow. Contact us and we will honor applicable requests.

7. Data Retention

We keep account data while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account. Upon deletion, your personally identifiable information (such as email and hashed password) is permanently erased, while your public discussions and comments may remain on the Site under an anonymized "Deleted User" handle to preserve conversation integrity.

8. Children's Privacy

Politix is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

9. Policy Updates

We may update this policy. The "Last Updated" date will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
